There are several confusing aspects of the street Rue du Four-Saint-Eustache. First, the originators of the Plan de Turgot mislabeled the street (look carefully -- it is "Rue de Foin"). In the official records of Paris, there has never been a "Rue du Foins" in the area. Secondly, the street does not appear in the primary Paris records; instead, the name of the street appears alternatively as "Rue du Four," "Rue du Four-Saint Honoré." or "Rue du Four-de-la-Couture-de-l'Évêque." Third, when one reads that Lavoisier lived in a street now known as "Rue Vauvilliers," that is not strictly correctly; he apparently lived closer to Saint-Eustache Church, in the area now known as "Forum des Halles." Fourthly, it is not known precisely where his house was.
